Jeanie C. Lucy, OD, PhD, MPH, MS, FAAO, is a public health Doctor of Optometry, scholar practitioner, and brings a wealth of experience to diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease including, glaucoma, dry eye disease, and public health advocacy.
Dr. Lucy has held several leadership and administrative roles throughout her career. She worked in academics as the Dean for the School of Arts and Sciences and associate professor at Alverno College, where she spearheaded areas that included biomedical sciences to recruit and retain students in STEM careers, including optometry, and wrote grants totaling $1.2M. She also worked at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Optometry as a clinical preceptor where she trained students in the multispecialty clinic, developed and taught public health, practice management, clinical procedures and injections courses, and served as chair of continuing optometric education.
Prior to that she was president and chief executive officer of Optometric Eyecare Physicians where she served over 5,000 patient lives in the Chicago and the western suburbs for their primary and secondary eye care needs. Dr. Lucy holds staff privileges at Advocate Trinity Hospital in the department of ophthalmic surgery. She has lectured locally, nationally, and globally in specialty areas that include public health approaches to glaucoma specific-patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), examining the role that medical groups play in decreasing visual impairment due to diabetic retinopathy, diagnosis and management of serpiginous choroiditis, and trigeminal neuralgia after Covid-19.
Dr. Lucy earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry and also holds a PhD in Public Health Leadership from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. She earned two master’s degrees – a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Master of Science in Values-Driven Leadership from Benedictine– and undergraduate degrees in Visual Science from the Illinois College of Optometry and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science Teaching from Chicago State University. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO).
Dr. Lucy enjoys outdoor bike riding, walking, interior design, writing, and spending time with family.
